Pests in Your Memphis Apartment

One of the worst things that can happen for someone in a Memphis apartment is finding some sort of pest that destroys their feeling of sanctuary from the outside world. Pests can come in many forms, from mice to cockroaches to ants.
Whenever we see a pest in our Memphis apartment, it ruins something about it for us, but luckily a Memphis apartment landlord is required by law to make sure that all pests are removed and to make sure no pests enter the building.
First, preventing infestation is very easy and all it involves is keeping your Memphis apartment clean. Keep counters and floors clean, do not keep your food out and keep it in rodent-proof containers. Also make sure you vacuum on a regular basis and keep the bathroom clean as rodents will be attracted to it, even if there is no food. Always disinfect surfaces and make sure all garbage cans are in tight fitting lids. Do not leave garbage bags out where rodents can get to them.
However, what can you do if there are pests in your building? Well, first of all you need to know what kind of pests there are in your building. They could be just a few ants, or a whole horde of mice.
Always make sure you let your landlord know when you see rodents. They will do an inspection and block points of entry to prevent the rodents from getting out. They may also call an exterminator out to deal with it. If the landlord does nothing within the first few days, then you can have the local health department come out and do something about it.
If you want to take care of things yourself, you have three options: spring loaded traps, glue traps and live-capture traps. Spring-loaded traps kill the mouse immediately and no suffering is caused. However, with glue traps, the mouse steps on it and cannot escape, which in turn means it starves to death. This is a horrible way to die and should be avoided. The last option is live-capture traps that can be used to capture the mouse and release it outside.
Cockroaches are horrible to have in a Memphis apartment because they can spread disease, they eat anything and they breed a lot. If you have a dirty Memphis apartment, roaches will come. You will usually only see roaches at night because they are very nocturnal. During the day they rest in cracks, crevices, electrical appliances and foodstuffs. If you see roaches during the daytime, you have a very big problem on your hands. You need to call your landlord to take care of the situation.
Ants can also be a problem, and they usually come in the thousands. They will not contaminate your food or bite you but they are annoying to see, marching their way through your cupboards. What you need to do to get rid of ants is find their source and spray or use traps where they are gathering. If you have roaches in your Memphis apartment, then the roaches will kill the ants.
Always keep your foodstuffs stored away and you should be okay. Also see if your landlord can spray the perimeter of the building to get rid of the ants for you.
Pests are a horrible thing to see in any Memphis apartment situation and you do not want to be in a Memphis apartment infested with anything we have just mentioned. However, if you are, try these steps to get rid of them. If you are not, then simply make sure to keep everything stored away, keep your house clean and do not be a slob.
