Parking Spaces in Your Memphis Apartment Complex
Mar 9th, 2008 by Memphis Apartments
When you’re looking for a Memphis apartment, be sure to check out the rules on parking. Some complexes have parking assigned, others have so many parking spaces per unit they serve, and others will have a “catch as you can” type of order to their parking. So, make sure you are fully appraised of what the parking situation is in the Memphis apartment that you choose.
Your Memphis apartment lease: where to park: The first place to start is to look at your Memphis apartment lease. Does it guarantee parking? Most do not. Check to see whether it states the number of parking spaces available for each unit. This will help you when you are looking. Usually, the lease tells you the dedicated areas where you can park. Sometimes it’s only on the street. Other times, there are specific spaces that are guaranteed for the Memphis apartments but there is no assignment. If your Memphis apartment is in a downtown metro area, this can cause even more challenges.
The advantage: If you are lucky enough to live in a Memphis apartment complex that has designated parking, you do have recourse if your space is taken. Sometimes, people will use a space when the apartment has been vacant for awhile. The recourse you have is to tell the landlord about it. Let them handle it.
If there are so many spaces assigned to each unit, then whether your space is empty or not, you are still renting that space. People will need to ask your permission to use it.
The cost: In some Memphis apartment complexes, you are paying extra for the privilege to park. This should also be in the lease. Check to make sure you understand the agreement.
Alternatives to spaces: If you live at a place where having a car and finding a place to park it is a hassle, you might want to choose alternatives. Choose a space that is close to your work but has public transportation. Although this may take a little longer, it will take away the stress of having to find a space when you get to your Memphis apartment. Some people who don’t have cars may choose to rent the space out to someone who has one. Check with your neighbors close by to see whether there is someone who would be willing to give you their space.
Conflict resolution: We live in very stressful times and something as simple as a parking space can make people cranky. When ever you have to confront someone about taking a space, as said before, let your Memphis apartment landlord handle it. There is probably a procedure that goes with the lease that only they can enforce. Trying to work directly with someone who is upset, may be detrimental to your health.
Finding a parking space may not be easy at times, but with a little patience you can think of an alternative. There’s little point in arguing as no good comes out of it. Try to keep calm and think with a clear head. It’s best to handle tense situations with a cool head.
Dealing with parking spaces is no easy task at times, however the important thing to remember…is that do the safest thing possible when you are looking for a space and you’ll have less stress in your life.
