Memphis Apartment Living Rooms

If the kitchen is the heart of the Memphis apartment, the living room is probably a close second. Living rooms are truly wonderful inventions. Most don’t serve a specific purpose, like the kitchen which is set up for cooking or a bathroom which is set up for personal care. Instead, Memphis apartment living rooms are there for whatever you’d like to do in them—sitting around, having intense family conversations, taking Saturday afternoon naps, watching Monday night football games. Living rooms are just meant to be a place where you can “live,” and what you do there is up to you.
There are no standard styles or rules that work for every Memphis apartment living room. The furniture and accessories you can purchase for yours span every possible style and price range. Most people enjoy having a Memphis apartment living room that reflects their lifestyle. My society-type acquaintances have lavish, richly decorated, painted, and furnished living rooms with grand pianos and fabulous artwork. Just sitting in these rooms makes me feel elegant.
Several of my friends and family members have casual living rooms that go beyond being comfortable—they are inviting. You probably have friends with living rooms like this. The rooms with huge comfy chairs, ottomans for feet propping, a television in just the right spot, fluffy throws within reach on cold evenings, and other such luxuries. These are rooms that seem to wrap their arms around you and give you a big hug that welcomes you in whenever you visit. No matter what style of living room suits your taste, personality, and style, your living room should be a place where you feel at ease, warm, and safe.
At a minimum, you will likely want your living room to include a sofa, a loveseat or chair, a lamp, and at least one table for setting down drinks. You also may need a place for electronic equipment such as an entertainment unit, and side tables to hold lamps and accents.
When it comes to locating living room furnishings, you’ll have many options, depending on your budget. Some furniture stores offer complete room sets. You can purchase single pieces or the entire room, right down to the artwork and area rugs. For people who feel they lack decorating talent (although it’s probably not true), those who are too busy to shop around, and those who like finding it all in one place, such furniture stores may be a good option.
Other Memphis apartment dwellers prefer to shop around, pick and choose, and check out all their options as they put together their living rooms. For this group, I recommend trying not only furniture stores but yard sales, flea markets, outlet centers, unfinished wood furniture stores, Web sites, and discount membership warehouse stores. Remember that even your living room necessities don’t have to be cookie-cutter furnishings. For instance, if you’d like something cost-effective and unique, try these out:
· Sofas. Instead of buying a sofa, opt for a daybed decorated to look like a sofa (with large pillows against the back). Daybeds are easy to find, can be very affordable, and when their back-rest pillows are removed, they’re perfect for overnight guests.
· Tables. Essentially, anything that has a flat surface and is about the right height can be used as a table. A trunk, a few suitcases, a stack of wooden wine boxes, an aluminum trash can with a piece of glass on top—any of these items can double as side tables and serve the same purpose with style.
· Entertainment units. Stack a couple of wide benches and you’ve got an inventive entertainment unit or bookshelves.
