MEMPHIS APARTMENT FLOORING
May 13th, 2007 by Memphis Apartments
It’s something you’ll find in every room in your Memphis apartment. It may be soft, hard, or somewhere in between. You walk on it; play on it; spill things on it; scrub it; vacuum it; and, if you don’t like the one you’ve got, even curse it now and then. It provides you with color and sometimes texture, and it’s the foundation for all your decorating endeavors.
It’s your floor, and for better or worse, everyone’s got to have one. And even if you can’t make permanent changes to the flooring in your Memphis apartment such as painting or replacing it all together, there are many ways to make yours more beautiful.
HARD FLOORING
Hard flooring may be made from a number of materials. Here’s a look at some of the popular types of hard flooring used today:
Wood
Consider yourself fortunate if you land a Memphis apartment with wood floors that have been well preserved. (Many Memphis apartment dwellers would love to be in your shoes!) Wood flooring is beautiful and versatile, as far as complementing different decorating styles. Think of it—wouldn’t a sleek wood floor look just as grand with a Country-style decor as it would with Contemporary furnishings? Wood flooring comes in a variety of colors (or stains), and planks come in a variety of widths. Parquet wood flooring has an added bonus—it adds texture as well as the beauty of wood to a room.
Vinyl
Vinyl is a durable type of flooring and can be inexpensive, depending on the quality. It is available in a large variety of colors, designs, and textures today, and this type of flooring is a very-popular choice for Memphis apartment kitchens and bathrooms.
One word of warning if you have a Memphis apartment with lower-quality vinyl: Be careful with high-heeled shoes. I once lived in a place with vinyl flooring, and my affinity for high heels left its mark all over the kitchen floor, in the form of little cuts and dents. (Higher-quality vinyl resists better.)
Laminates
Laminates can be made from a variety of materials such as wood, synthetic, and plastic, and they’ve gotten amazingly sophisticated. A few years ago, I didn’t know of anyone who would believe that a laminate created to look like a wood floor could ever pass for the real thing. Now, it’s very common for anyone to mistake a laminate for real wood.
Other Materials
You may also have hard flooring made of cement, brick, tile, terrazzo, or stone. Like the others mentioned, all of these types of hard flooring can look great if they’re in good condition, and they can work nicely with various decorating styles.
