Memphis Apartment Decorating on a Budget
Jul 20th, 2007 by Memphis Apartments
Whether you just rented your first Memphis apartment or are updating the one you have lived in for years, decorating does not need to be expensive. You can decorate your Memphis apartment on a budget. And, you can still have a nice Memphis apartment that reflects your personality.
Paint is one of the best ways to start your decorating. It is also one of the cheapest. Make sure you are allowed to repaint your walls before you pick up the paint brush. You can paint an entire room or select a particular wall as the focal point for the room. Paint can dramatically change the appearance and feel of a room.
Think about the furniture you are going to use in each room. If you are redecorating, are you planning to keep the furniture you have or replace it? If you are keeping it, create a new arrangement for furniture placement. If you are buying new furniture, consider the overall purpose or function of the room. Do you want a particular piece of furniture to be the central focus on the room?
Since you are on a budget, consider second furniture for your Memphis apartment. Ask your friends and family if they have any pieces of furniture they do not use. Do not worry whether the pieces match one another. You can always cover furniture with material and coordinate your colors. Visit your local flea market or antique shop. Check the classifieds for auctions in your community. On-line auctions have become popular in recent years. Estate sales and garage sales are excellent means of finding second hand furniture that is in good condition. These are all excellent ways to find good deals on furniture.
If you do not like the idea of using second hand furniture, visit several of the discount stores in your community. Many general discount stores keep small selections of furniture. Discount furniture stores can be great for locating the perfect furniture set. Keep in mind that not all discount stores provide delivery of furniture. If you have to arrange delivery, this is an additional cost. Make sure the furniture is worth the total expense to you.
You do not need to fully furnish your Memphis apartment. To save money, select the essential furniture first. If you have money left over, go back and get some of the “extras†you were eyeing. Stick with the basics. You need furniture for sleeping, eating, and relaxing. This means a bed, a table with chairs, and a couch or sofa. You may need a desk for work or school. You can get everything else later. You might even consider getting multi-purpose furniture such as a sofa bed.
Do not clutter your Memphis apartment with meaningless knick knacks. If you do not already have accent pieces, select a few nice items. Place a couple of pictures in frames in your rooms. One attractive wall-hanging is sufficient for a wall. More is not necessarily better. Decorating is more about creativity than accumulation.
You can purchase area rugs, throws, and decorative pillows to place throughout your Memphis apartment. These items can be purchased at discount stores for as little as $20 each. You can find new items at reduced cost at flea markets and garage sales. Visit an antique shop. You will be surprised with what you walk away with. You can find unique items at bargain basement prices.
You do not need to “finish†your decorating project. This is an ongoing activity that you should have fun with. As you find something you like for your Memphis apartment, either purchase it or budget to purchase it in the future. You will continue to add furniture and items to your Memphis apartment as long as you live there.
