Memphis Apartment Decorating 101

Now that you have moved into your Memphis apartment, you want to make it your own. You want it to reflect your personality. You want your friends and family to love it. You want to feel comfortable in your new Memphis apartment space.
Keep in mind that you are limited to some extent. The space is smaller. Also, you probably have limitations outlined in your lease regarding wall paint color and the number of holes you can put in your Memphis apartment walls to hang pictures.
The more open the decorating plan, the bigger your space will seem. Or, if you do not like your open floor plan, use furniture to separate space. If your living room merges with your dining room, use your couch or sofa to set apart the two spaces. Your dining room table clearly indicates your dining room. Make sure your dining room table is the right size for your dining room. If it is too big, it will overwhelm the space, making the space seem too small.
Once you know your limitations, let your imagination run free. You can decorate your apartment without spending excessive money or time. If you are permitted to paint walls in non-neutral colors, limit the number of walls you paint. You might want to only paint one wall and hang pictures on it as the room’s focal point. Make sure the wall color compliments your furniture.
Your furniture is central to your decorating plans. Furniture takes about the most space and is the most visible items in your apartment. Choose carefully. If you have large overstuffed living room furniture, you probably want to either break down your set in to smaller pieces or trade it in on a smaller outfit. Large furniture in a small space makes your rooms look and feel cramped.
Although most Memphis apartments are carpeted, you can still use area rugs, particularly in the living room and bedrooms. If you keep the neutral color scheme, you can use area rugs to add color to each room. You can have a small area rug under your coffee table in the living room. A larger area rug under a bed adds a nice splash of coordinating color to the bedroom. Area rugs for children’s rooms are often designed with play in mind. The rug may have a map on it or roads for your children to play on.
Wall pictures are wonderful accents. They are even more appealing if they reflect your personality. Contemporary art may not suit you. Perhaps you prefer folk art. Pictures in your children’s rooms should be age appropriate, not your leftovers. This helps give your apartment a “home-like†feeling.
Books are great conversation pieces. You can decorate using books throughout your Memphis apartment. Place large flat books on or under your coffee table in the living room. Have literary novels or contemporary mystery novels in a short book shelf right outside of the kitchen or in your bedroom. You can also place history books on your entertainment center using contemporary bookends.
Knick knacks, figurines and family photographs are perfect accent pieces throughout your Memphis apartment. Strategically place family photographs throughout your living room and bedrooms. Place figurines on your entertainment center and on shelves throughout your Memphis apartment.
Decorative pillows and throws are great for your living room and bedrooms. You can strategically toss throws over any chair to add color. Decorative pillows are perfect for your couch and beds. If you have the space, decorative floor pillows can add just the right touch to a room. You can even use floor pillows in children’s rooms.
Choose themes that you can comfortably live with for a while. You will have a sense of what you like and what you do not like. As you complete each room, you will move a picture here and knick knack there because it just feels right.
