Make Your Memphis Apartment Your “Homeâ€

Memphis Apartment living is becoming more popular. As a result, as a renter, you are probably very interested in making your Memphis apartment your “home.†This is really about making your Memphis apartment reflect your character and personality.
The first thing to consider is color. Select a color scheme or schemes for your apartment. You probably want to use lighter colors throughout your Memphis apartment. Lighter colors make rooms appear larger. You do not necessarily have to go with pastel, just paler colors. Select colors that compliment your furniture in each room. Neutral colors can be dressed up with furniture and other apartment accents.
Furniture is next. Make sure your furniture size suits your Memphis apartment. If your furniture is too big, it will overwhelm your room. Also, if your furniture is too dark in the room, it will become the focal point. Select furniture that you are comfortable with, not necessarily the latest styles. If you know what styles appeal to you, you can choose your furniture accordingly. For example, you might decide contemporary styles are best.
However, you do not need to select a particular style. You can mix and match. Pick furniture and accent pieces that just appeal to you. As long as the furniture does not clash, usually determined by type of wood it is made of, you can use just about anything in your Memphis apartment. If you have mismatched furniture and do not like it, consider furniture covers. You can purchase coordinated sets at any department store. You can also get coordinating decorative pillows or other accents to bring the style together.
Additional decorating ideas that help turn your Memphis apartment into your home include floor pillows and area rugs strategically placed throughout your apartment. Many people like area rugs in living rooms, particularly under coffee tables. You can also place a larger area rug underneath your dining room table. You can have small rugs at each entrance. Floor pillows are great accents that are also functional. You are likely at some point to have more visitors than you have seating places. Some of your guests can use the floor pillows for seating.
Do not forget window dressings. Blinds and curtains are great ways to add a touch of color to your rooms. If you have a patio or balcony door, you can dress up that as well. You can add curtains over the vertical blinds. Check your lease to determine if you are allowed to change blinds or if you can only add curtains.
Place books throughout your Memphis apartment. Not just any books, but books that reflect your interests. Large books add a nice touch to coffee tables. If you have absolutely no interest in books or reading, consider getting a nice set of Reader’s Digest collections for decoration purposes only. You can also use magazines in place of the books.
Photographs definitely add a “home†touch to your Memphis apartment. You can place photographs on shelves throughout your Memphis apartment. Place some on your entertainment center. You can even hang some in the hallway. If you have a family photograph, you might consider using it as the focal point in one of your rooms.
If you have children, their rooms can help turn your Memphis apartment into a “home.†Their rooms should be neat, but not pristine. It should be obvious they are children’s rooms. A “home†is lived in and well used. Unless it is your style, your apartment should not be a museum. It should feel comfortable to anyone visiting.
Your Memphis apartment is your home. So, be creative and fun while decorating. Do not get stuck trying to follow a particular style. Just be yourself and your apartment will naturally reflect your personality.
