Keeping Your Memphis Apartment Clean

It is easy for Memphis apartments to become untidy. However, that does not excuse tenants from maintaining a clean apartment in accordance with their lease agreement. There are several ways that Memphis apartments need to be cleaned.
The first is by doing laundry. Never keep piles of dirty laundry on your floor as these are perfect nests for bugs, especially cockroaches. Dirty laundry should be kept in a hamper no longer than two weeks. Once you clean your laundry, put your clothes away; do not place clean clothes on the floor. You should do laundry at least twice a month. If you have a family, plan to clean laundry weekly. This also helps neutralize odors in your Memphis apartment.
Keeping a clean kitchen is a must. Do not keep open containers of food in your refrigerator. Make sure that no food in your refrigerator has expired. If you discard of food into your trash, take your trash bag to the disposal bin immediately. Your apartment will begin to smell of the discarded food. You want to neutralize odors as much as possible.
Clean your dishes daily, whether manually or with a dishwasher if you have one. If you cannot clean dishes daily, rinse the dishes before placing them in your sink. Make sure your counters are sanitized and no food remnants exist. Keep your sugar and flour in containers to keep the bugs out. Do not leave anything with sugar sitting out in the open. After you finish a can of soda, rinse out the can before discarding it.
You should clean your Memphis apartment weekly. The best way to clean is from top to bottom. This means dusting and cleaning your furniture. Hopefully your walls do not need to be cleaned, but if they do, they are next. Leave all floors until the very end. Clean your bathtub and toilet with a scrubber and deep cleanser.
Use a nontoxic cleaning product. This is especially important if there are children in the apartment. You should also protect yourself. It is a good idea to use gloves while you clean. Gloves protect your hands from the chemicals in the cleaner. Be careful using ammonia as the fumes may be toxic. Never mix ammonia with bleach. Open your windows for ventilation.
You are ready to clean your floors. If you have carpet, you may want to use a carpet cleaner. Be careful with the powders as they will linger in the air after you vacuum. This is particularly problematic for people with allergies. If you have linoleum or hard wood floors, be sure to mop your floors after you sweep them. Sometimes sweeping just moves the dust around. Mopping picks up what is left over.
At the first sign of bugs, immediately notify your landlord. If you live in an older building and have a bug problem, your landlord probably exterminates on a regular basis. If he does not, request that he provide extermination services.
You can use a spray air freshener in your Memphis apartment. Limit use in areas that are near common areas such as hallways. Be considerate of neighbors who may have allergies. Aerosol sprays are particularly hazardous to such individuals. If you like the smell sprays provide, you may wish to consider another option that is less harmful to the environment and to yourself. One such option is placing unlit candles throughout your apartment along with corresponding potpourri. If you have pets or small children, make sure they cannot reach the candles or potpourri.
Keeping your Memphis apartment clean can be a chore. However, you will have a healthy living environment by following the tips above. You will also minimize damage to your apartment, especially to carpets, by cleaning them regularly.
