Keeping Your Memphis Apartment Clean
Apr 18th, 2008 by Memphis Apartments
The excitement of new found freedom in your first Memphis apartment can be exhilarating. You may have thrown a couple of parties in the past weeks or you are just lounging around your pad. Then you realize after a few weeks that you have a mountain full of laundry, muck in your bathroom and kitchen and a bed that allows no surface of it for sleeping. Your new Memphis apartment has become a pig sty, and for first timers, this realization can be overwhelming. You have 2 options, hire a professional cleaner and organizer or you can clean your apartment yourself.
Should you want to clean the Memphis apartment yourself to save money, here is a good plan and a few tips:
1.) Create a battle plan.
Mark the date on your calendar when you will be doing an overhaul of your Memphis apartment. It may take up one whole day of your life as it took weeks for your junk to accumulate in the apartment. Commit to that schedule. Enlist the help of a family member or a friend of yours because you may find the task too overwhelming for you to do alone.
2.) Purge.
Sort out your things: things to keep, things to donate or sell, and garbage. Throw out the garbage. Put those beer bottles and cans in the recycling bin. Refrain from being sentimental. If it gathers dust and have not used it since you moved in, chuck it. Less things, less clutter and dust.
Several garbage bags may be very helpful in this task.
3.) Clean
Set all things aside and clean all surfaces. Vacuum your carpet and sofa. Wipe your windows (and launder your curtains). Mop the tile floor. Wash the dishes and scour the kitchen surfaces. Scrub the bathroom tiles and fixtures. Change your bed sheets.
You may want to invest in basic cleaning material such as brushes, sponges, metal scrubs, rags and a mop. Cleaning products such as an all purpose liquid cleansers, bleach and Lysol are your best companions in your task.
4.) Organize
When surfaces are clean, it is time to put everything in its place. As most apartments are rather limited in space, controlling clutter is a must. Cleaning your apartment is the perfect opportunity to create an inventory of your things and list where they are to be placed.
Utilize that shelf and place your books and magazines to free your table from clutter. Place all your receipts and bills neatly in a clear folder. Consider investing in plastic drawers and containers for smaller items, and racks and shelving systems to maximize vertical space.
5.) Finishing Touches
Placing fresh flowers in the middle of the table or spraying room fragrances for a homey feel. Your apartment, after all, is a home, and not a military camp.
6.) Maintenance
After the overhaul of your Memphis apartment, the next challenge would be the maintenance of the cleanliness in your unit. Cleaning need not be as taxing as this one. Clean as you go. Make your bed as you wake in the morning. Swish the toilet bowl with a toilet brush in the morning. Wash the dishes and wipe the stove tops after you eat. Put away books, magazines and other things as you finish using them. Give the floor a quick sweep before you go out.
Cleaning a Memphis apartment should not be very hard if you do not accumulate clutter and junk. Cleaning should be part of one’s routine to maintain the livable state of a Memphis apartment.
