You have rented your first Memphis apartment. Or perhaps you have rented a Memphis apartment that does not quite suit your needs. Either way, you need help deciding how to arrange your space. Floor planners can help you with configuring your Memphis apartment space.

You have three basic options regarding floor planners. You can draw your own floor plan. You can purchase floor planning software. Or you can use free online floor planners. The option you choose depends on your comfort level using software programs as well as how much time you want to commit to the process.

Even if you are computer savvy, drawing your own floor plan gives you more flexibility because you don’t need a computer. The overall floor planning process is similar regardless of the option you choose. It involves measuring your Memphis apartment space and then measuring your furniture.

The first thing you need to do is measure your Memphis apartment one room at a time. You should do this before you move any furniture into your Memphis apartment. You might be able to get a general floor plan from your landlord. If you just leased your Memphis apartment, you probably already have a floor plan you can use. You should still measure the rooms to confirm the dimensions on the plan. You want to know the specifics. Measure the width of doors and closets. Measure the exact placement of windows.

The next step involves measuring your furniture. If you already have furniture, go ahead and measure it. Specifically, you want the dimensions of each large piece of furniture such as your bed, dressers, tables, couches, and chairs. Do the same for all appliances and built-ins such as cabinets and bathtubs. Be sure to measure your book cases and entertainment center as well. Account for every inch of space in your Memphis apartment.

If you don’t have furniture, you should visit a furniture store and make selections without purchasing any furniture just yet. Get the measurements of the furniture you like. Your salesperson can help you with this. You might be able to get the information you need from the store catalog.

Now that you have all of the measurements, you need to design your floor plan. If you are drawing the plan yourself, use graph paper. Have each square on the paper represent one foot or twelve inches. Go ahead and draw out your space, room by room, on a piece of paper. If you decide to use a computer program, input your room dimensions into the software.

Once you are finished, set your planner aside. Now comes the fun part. You need to do the same thing with your furniture. Draw your furniture, using the same foot measurements. Use squares and rectangles to represent each piece of furniture. If you are using floor planning software, you can create each unique piece of furniture.

The third step is to place your furniture on the floor plan. Move furniture around until you find a floor plan you like. The best floor plan maximizes your space. It also should be easy to move among your furniture. If your furniture is too close together, your space will appear and feel cluttered. You should be able to walk in between furniture without touching any piece.

You don’t have to settle on one plan immediately. Think about it for a few days. Visualize your space as you have it planned. It should feel comfortable to you. If it does not feel comfortable, go back to your planner. Move the furniture around again. Keep doing this until you have a plan you like.

Once you have settled on a space plan, go ahead and move in your furniture. If you need to, order your furniture. This entire process should only take a few days to complete but you might need a full week or two. It is well worth the time to feel comfortable in your Memphis apartment. You don’t want to move into a Memphis apartment and immediately start planning to move out as soon as your lease is up. Instead, take the time to plan your space.
