How to Organize Your Memphis Apartment
Jun 17th, 2007 by Memphis Apartments
Once you move in to your Memphis apartment, you need to immediately organize your space. If you do not organize upon move in, it becomes a chore to organize afterwards. Your space is limited in the Memphis apartment. Even more so if you moved from a larger space. Organization helps you manage potential clutter.
Your three best friends in organizing your Memphis apartment are shelves, drawers, and items with storage space. Basically, you want places to put things, both visibly and out of sight.
Let’s start with shelves. Shelves are the perfect organizers for things you want to remain visible. All of your books can go on bookshelves with decorative book ends. Shelves in your entertainment center can house your DVDs and CDs. Photos can be placed on shelves throughout the Memphis apartment. Framed pictures can be placed on any of these types of shelves.
Several of your closets may have built in shelves. Your linen closet will have shelves for towels and all bathroom items. You can store bedding in the linen closet as well. If you have shelves in your bedroom closets, you can store seasonal clothing such as sweaters or other items that need to be stored. You are likely to have a shelf in your closet above your clothes rod. You can use that space for the overflow of clothes from your dressers or for general storage.
Use shoes organizers if you need to. These may be separate pieces of furniture with pull down drawers that hold up to ten pairs of shoes each. Or the organizer could be one place over the closet door. Either way, shoes can quickly appear messy and take up unnecessary space if they are not kept in an organized manner.
Drawers are also organizers. You may find drawers in entertainment centers, coffee tables or end tables in the living room. Your dining room’s corner hutch probably has drawers. Obviously your bedroom dressers have drawers. All of these are ideal places to keep items out of sight. You might want to make a list of where you put things until you become more familiar with your new Memphis apartment.
In addition to the obvious, drawers can also be built in to bed frames, for both adult and child beds. Not all of these types of drawers are easy to use. If you decide to get a bed frame with drawers built in under the frame, test the drawers prior to purchase. You do not want to purchase one that is a hassle to use. The idea is to make your life easier!
If your bed does not have built in storage, you can still use the space under your bed frame for storage. The storage bins made specifically for under bed storage is great for things you want to permanently store or very seasonal items such as sweaters.
Many contemporary pieces of furniture have hidden storage space. In your living room, your ottoman probably has storage space. Many coffee tables and end tables now have tops that lift up for extra storage space. Some living room furniture actually has built-in storage. All you do is lift the seat of the chair or couch section and it is a storage space similar to the ottoman.
Storage trunks or cedar chests have dual purposes. They are great for storage because they are can hold blankets and sheets, emptying closet space for other items. They have lots of room. You can also place items on top of them. So they store stuff in and on them.
It is not difficult to organize your Memphis apartment. It just takes imagination. Have fun and enjoy the organizing. After it is done, you will feel so much more relaxed without all of the clutter.
