HOW TO EMBELLISH YOUR MEMPHIS APARTMENT
May 17th, 2007 by Memphis Apartments
You know how important your furniture and accessories are in giving your Memphis apartment personality. But sometimes your budget may not allow for some really special additions to punch up your decor.
Have you ever admired a spectacular lamp or unusual chair but sadly passed it by because it was simply too expensive? Don’t feel bad-we’ve all been there. And just because you’re strapped for decorating cash doesn’t mean you can’t have unique and wonderful things. In fact, picking up used or inexpensive pieces that are uncomplicated in design is great for several reasons. Not only can simply designed furnishings work well with changing styles, but they can also be embellished using inexpensive materials. Some materials that are perfect for such projects include these:
· Beads. Add glass or plastic beads to throw pillows, curtains, shades, and picture frames.
· Paint markers. For just a few dollars per color, you can add a permanent pick-me-up to tablecloths, cloth napkins, furniture, and even glass items.
· Ribbon. Trim anything from furniture to walls to bulletin boards with clearance-rack rolls of ribbon.
· Plastic greenery. Wrap plastic ivy around curtain rods, use it as tiebacks, or drape it over framed artwork for a romantic touch.
· Plastic flowers. Attach plastic flowers to anything that needs to be freshened up, such as simple curtain rods, wicker baskets, and bed canopies. For picture frames, glue small flowers around the sides for a fresh look.
MEMPHIS APARTMENT TIPS
Remember being a kid, when you would “feel” the holidays as they approached? Our teachers would decorate the school, stores would put out new displays, and some towns would even decorate their main streets.
If you enjoy holidays throughout the year, why not do something a little special at your Memphis apartment to reflect it? Some simple ways to get into the spirit for various holidays include these:
· Independence Day. Add little American flags to your existing centerpieces and flower arrangements; create a new flower arrangement by placing red and white carnations in a blue vase.
· Halloween. Make votive holders by cutting the tops out of tiny pumpkins; make your own “ghosts” by placing a rolled-up sock in the center of a handkerchief and cinching in with a rubber band and drawing eyes on it. Hang these from clear plastic thread throughout your Memphis apartment.
· Thanksgiving. Create a floral arrangement with a few branches retrieved from the outdoors with autumn leaves still attached; create centerpieces of walnuts and vegetables; lay gourds and pine cones on tables as free-flowing decoration.
· Christmas. Wrap strands of tiny lights around your larger indoor plants; fill bowls with ornaments and set them out on your tables; cut a wreath form out of poster board and attach all your holiday cards to it; instead of ornaments, decorate your tree by tying raffia bows on the branches.
