Decorating Your Memphis Apartment Balcony

The primary concern related to Memphis apartment balcony decorating is safety. If you have a balcony, it means you are not on ground level. Think carefully about how you decorate your balcony. A secondary concern is the actual appearance or visual presentation of your Memphis apartment balcony.
You do not want to have items on your balcony that can fall off. There are several reasons for this. You might really like the item and do not want it broken. Also, if something falls from your balcony and breaks something on someone else’s balcony, your neighbor will not be happy. You may even be responsible for replacing your neighbor’s broken item.
Most importantly, you do not want something falling from your balcony and landing on someone below. Depending on the size and weight of the item, this could cause serious injury to an individual. You may be responsible for that person’s medical bills. Or he may sue you for personal injury. You could be liable because you did not maintain control of belongings in your possession.
Read your lease before you hang anything from your balcony. Some leases stipulate you cannot decorate your balcony railing in any fashion. This is to minimize things falling off and causing damage. Other leases may allow you to wrap holiday garland as long as it is properly secured, but still prohibit hanging items.
If you decide to place outdoor furniture on your balcony, make sure it is heavy enough that the wind cannot blow it off your balcony. You might consider clamping your furniture to the balcony railing. This prevents your furniture from knocking against your balcony doors during high winds. If your door cracks or shatters because of the furniture you placed on your balcony, you will have to pay to have it replaced.
Your balcony may only be large enough for a small table and two chairs. Wrought iron furniture is both compact and elegant. It may get hot to the touch if it is exposed to the sun for long periods of time. Consider adding a table umbrella to stay cool. If you do not have room, or umbrellas are prohibited, place cloth cushions on the chairs to protect yourself from the hot metal.
Outdoor plants in heavy containers are great for decorating your balcony. Place them in corners of the balcony so you still have room to move around. If you have outdoor plants, take care of them. Make sure they are watered regularly. If you have plants that grow fast, keep them under control. You do not want vines wrapping around your balcony railing or crawling up the exterior of your Memphis apartment building. Your balcony will begin to resemble a jungle.
Small garden figurines are also nice additions to the balcony. Always make sure they weigh enough that wind will not move them. Do not place so many items on your balcony that it looks cluttered or messy. The first rule of decorating is to keep it nice and neat. Your balcony is not storage space. Do not keep your bicycle on your balcony. Only place decorative items on it.
Outdoor rugs may not be appropriate for your balcony. These rugs will be exposed to the elements throughout the year. Mold can build under moist carpets, especially outdoor ones. It will be difficult to keep the rugs clean. Any odor that gets in the rug will eventually make its way into your Memphis apartment.
Think of your balcony as outdoor living space. This will help you as you plan your decorating strategy. Remember that other people will see your balcony. Make sure it says something positive about you!
