CARPETING YOUR MEMPHIS APARTMENT
Apr 11th, 2007 by Memphis Apartments
Wall-to-wall carpeting is an extremely common floor covering in many Memphis apartments across the country. If your Memphis apartment has carpeting that’s in decent shape and is a neutral color, it should be easy for you to work with it. Unfortunately, the carpeting in quite a few Memphis apartments doesn’t seem to fall into this category. If many residents have lived in the space since the carpeting was laid, it’s more likely to be in less-than-perfect shape. You may find yourself with one or more of the following problems:
· A color that clashes with your furnishings
· Areas that are faded because spills have been over cleaned by harsh cleansers
· Stains that just won’t go away
Some Memphis apartment complexes steam-clean or shampoo carpeting just before a new renter moves in or require the exiting renter to do this. Still, there are several Memphis apartments where the carpeting was sporting damage beyond anything a mere steam cleaning could rectify. So you must found creative ways to live with it or work around it.
HOW TO CHANGE YOUR MEMPHIS APARTMENT FLOORSCAPE WITH RUGS
If you have carpeting (or even hard flooring) you just don’t like, and you’re unable to make permanent changes because it’s against the rules, what can you do? Do what you’d do for anything else you want to hide—dress it up!
Area rugs are an attractive and functional way to disguise (or even just enhance) your existing flooring, add color and texture, and define an area. For instance, you may have a floor plan that offers a combined living room and dining room. Placing one area rug in the living room (with furniture positioned along the sides and a coffee table near the center) and one in the dining room (centered under the table) can visually separate one large space two functional areas.
Rugs can also help you create less structured areas. For instance, a rug with two chairs and a table at the edges creates a “conversation nook,” and a rug with a desk creates a Memphis apartment office area.
MEMPHIS APARTMENT TIPS – ETHNIC RUGS
· Ethnic-style rugs are great for introducing certain colors, textures, and moods into a room. The more interesting ones are great conversation pieces and can even become the focal point for a room. I know designers and design-conscious people who often select a rug first, use it as an inspiration piece, and literally build the rest of the room around colors and design found in the rug.
· Ethnic rugs can also help introduce a specific style into a Memphis apartment room or even whole Memphis apartment. For instance, you may want to decorate your Memphis apartment living room in a Native American style. If you don’t have many furnishings in the style and can’t purchase much at once, a large Navajo rug in the room’s center helps you make big strides in that direction. You can then add accessories as you go, to complement the look even further. Oriental and kilim rugs, also quite popular now, are widely available at a various prices.
