Bring the Outdoors Indoors to Your Memphis Apartment
Oct 16th, 2007 by Memphis Apartments
Do you love to garden or just be outside? Do you prefer open outdoors to stuffy indoors? Do you live where the seasons drastically change? Think you cannot have a “green” Memphis apartment? Think again.
Bringing the outdoors indoors has never been easier. The first step is to let light in throughout your Memphis apartment. Keep curtains open during the day. Natural lighting provides the feel of the outdoors. Many people find natural lighting energizing. Open windows throughout your Memphis apartment on days that are sunny and warm. The air from open windows on cooler days can also be refreshing.
Plants are perfect vehicles to bring the outdoors into your Memphis apartment. If you do not know anything about plants and how to care for them, ask a local gardener which plants are most suitable for Memphis apartments. Be sure to ask for specific instructions to properly care for the plants.
Flowers can be placed in any room in your Memphis apartment. Fresh cut flowers are great for center piece vases in your living room. Fresh flowers are not always ideal for your dining room, especially if you use your dining room table for meals. The smell of the flowers may be overwhelming. If you do not like fresh flowers or have allergies to them, consider using floral swags in your rooms. Wreaths are nice accent pieces as are garlands, both of which can include flowers of any kind.
Container plants are great for your patio or balcony. While the plants remain outside, you will have a perfect view of them through your patio or balcony doors as long as you keep the curtains open. You can also place container plants throughout your Memphis apartment, particularly in your kitchen, dining room, and living room. Container plants may include small trees.
Small indoor herb gardens are easy to maintain. If your kitchen has a window, you can place the garden on the window sill. If you have a galley kitchen with no window, find another appropriate spot for your garden. Herb gardens do not need much tending but some do need sun for as much as four hours a day.
Aquariums are great focal points in any room. You do not have to use the aquarium to house fish or other water life. Be creative. You can keep plants or other greenery in the aquarium. Or you can keep the water life theme minus the fish. Place colorful coral in the aquarium along with plants such as Java Ferns and Java Moss.
Consider repainting your walls using earth tones. Creams and tans are nice reflections of earth while pale blue or greens can reflect the sky, seas, and grass. If you do not want to repaint your walls, you might replace your furniture or use furniture covers in these tones and color schemes.
While wall color may subtly reflect the outdoors, you can hang wall art that features the outdoors, including plant life. Seascapes and landscapes are nice accents to rooms that include plants or aquariums. Of course, floral pictures come in a variety of designs that suit just about everyone. Any of these types of pictures are suitable in any room, including the bathroom.
Bowls full of fruit are natural reminders of the outdoors. These are perfect in the kitchen as well as on your dining room table. It may be appropriate to place a fruit bowl on a side table in your living room.
As you can tell, it is pretty easy to bring the outdoors indoors. It is also relatively inexpensive as many of these suggestions involve one time purchases and little maintenance. Regardless, you will find that a touch of the outdoors inside your Memphis apartment goes a long way toward lightening your Memphis apartment as well as your mood.
